Corinne C. Heggie represents corporate clients from the consumer financial services sector in United States federal and state courts in Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Corinne's clients include debt buyers, debt collectors, background investigation companies, consumer reporting agencies, and collection attorneys. She has represented her clients' interests in individual cases and as class counsel in matters involving claims brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Electronic Funds Transfer Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Truth in Lending Act and their state law corollaries. She has negotiated and documented countless settlements on behalf of her clients, including class actions.
Corinne's consumer financial services litigation experience allows her to handle investigations into the business practices of debt collection agencies and debt buyers. She has represented clients who have received subpoenas, civil investigative demands, request for testimony, complaints, and civil suits from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, various attorneys general, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs, and the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing & Regulation. Corinne has experience representing attorneys before the Illinois Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Committee.
Corinne's litigation experience includes the defense of general commercial matters. She has represented corporations in breach of contract, breach of fiduciary, and other business tort claims. Corinne has defended several Illinois Consumer Fraud Act claims on behalf of her corporate clients. Corinne handles litigation involving contested foreclosures (judicial and non-judicial) against mortgage services, lenders, and foreclosure counsel in Illinois and Missouri courts.
Corinne has defended professional liability claims on behalf of accountants, real estate agents, nurses, and insurance agents. She represents school districts and boards of education as well as state and local officials in litigation involving § 1983, First Amendment, employment and tort claims.
Among her many bar activities Corinne serves on the Board of Directors of Women's Bar Association and will be President in 2019-2020.
